1. Set up your Transkribus Site

This step-by-step guide aims to assist you in creating your first Transkribus Site, guiding you through the process smoothly to ensure your collections are beautifully presented and accessible.

Previous step: Transkribus Sites

Note: The layout shown here reflects the upcoming design from our beta version and will be available soon in the WebApp.

To get started with Sites, simply access the Sites workspace within the Transkribus platform. From there, you can easily create your first site with just a few clicks. We will first explain how to set up Sites in four easy steps. Then we will have a look at the Settings options.

Step 2: Start with creating your Site

Press the "Create my first site" button to begin. Here's what you'll need:

    • Title: Choose a name that encapsulates the essence or theme of your collection.
    • Custom URL: Enter the desired last part of the URL for your Site, such as "myfirstsite," and the system will automatically generate the correct URL for you.
    • Connected Collection: Opt for one or  more collections from your account that you wish to feature on your Site. You can always add more collections to your Sites via the Settings menu.

Step 3: Personalise your Site's home page

Once your Site is created, it's time to add your personal touch to the Home section of your Site:

    • Background Image: Upload an image that resonates with your collection, setting the tone for visitors.
    • Description: Create a brief and welcoming introduction for your home page that highlights the significance and special features of your collection.

Step 4: Save your progress and preview

Make sure to save your changes regularly. The Transkribus Sites CMS is divided into two sections: content editing on the left and a live preview of your Sites platform on the right. You can also make use of the Preview button located on the top left, next to the Save button.
This allows you to see how your Site will appear to your audience, ensuring it reflects your vision accurately.

If you want to publish a new Transkribus Site for a different project, archive, or purpose on your account, simply start from the beginning and follow the same steps as before.

    • Site Information: Add important metadata such as country, document time period, institution name, and document types to better describe your site and its content.

    • Theme: Customise the look and feel of your Site by selecting colours, creating a custom theme, and adding a custom link in the footer to your institution, organisation, or related external project.

    • Content: Manage Site modules by adding or removing default pages like Home, Search, About, or create your own custom modules to tailor the site to your needs.

    • Members: Invite collaborators to your Site by sending invitations tied to specific email addresses, allowing for controlled access and teamwork.
